Dropping off/picking up children and excusing absences
Unless otherwise specified in the school policy, legal guardians have to hand over children in the preschool locker room directly to the teachers. Simply accompanying the child to the preschool entrance door or the locker room and letting them go to the classroom alone is not sufficient. In that case the preschool would not be responsible for the child’s safety. In the same manner, legal guardians need to pick up children directly from the teachers.
Legal guardians can authorize other individuals to drop off or pick up their children from preschool. Every preschool has a written record of authorized persons and cannot hand children over to any other individual. If you want your child to be picked up by their grandmother, uncle or a family friend, make sure to notify the teacher in the classroom in advance. Most preschools require personal data of all individuals authorized to pick up children (i.e. name, date of birth, ID number).
Excusing absences — it is necessary to notify the preschool in advance about sickness or any other reason why your child is absence. Enquire about the way you should inform your preschool about your child’s absence (by phone, email, application). When excusing a longer absence (especially in case of children attending the pre-primary school year), it is usually necessary to provide an explanation stamped by a doctor. A preschool principal can expel a child who does not attend preschool for more than two weeks without an excuse from a legal guardian.
