10 tips for having your foreign degree recognized

  1. Never submit the original proofs of education. All documents are archived, so always send copies certified by a notary which are considered as authentic as the original documents.
  2. Request forms are usually downloadable from the websites of the regional authorities or public universities.
  3. Minor applicants must indicate their legal guardian. In addition to personal and contact details, please specify in what capacity you represent the applicant (mother, father, power of attorney from parents).
  4. If you need to make a certified copy of the sworn translation of your documents into Czech, do so before submitting your request.
  5. Do not forget to include the date and your own signature. Failure to do so would make the request incomplete, and the administrative procedure could not be initiated.
  6. If you need to add any information about your studies that does not fit in any of the fields on the request form, please include it in the cover letter.
  7. Keep proof of the date you submitted or sent your request.
  8. Make sure your name tag is on your mailbox. If the postperson does not reach you at home, they will put a notice in your mailbox.
  9. If your address changes or you travel abroad for a long period of time after submitting your request, notify the relevant institution. The decision letter can stay at the post office for two weeks. If you do not collect it by then, it will be returned to the sender.
