School year in preschools lasts from 1 September to 30 June.
Summer break regime — summer break lasts two months in the Czech Republic — July and August. Most preschools are closed during summer break, alternatively they might work in holiday regime (i.e. the first week of July and the last week of August only). Every preschool has its own set of rules so make sure to find out all the important information about the summer regime in your preschool. In big cities, there is usually at least one preschool in each municipal district that is open during the summer months (preschools take turns after approximately two weeks) mostly for children whose both parents are employed and cannot take any vacation days.
Preschools are closed on public holidays (28 September, 28 October, 17 November, 1 May, 8 May). Christmas break usually lasts from 23 December to 2 January and Easter break in the spring includes Good Friday (Friday before Easter) and Easter Monday.
Most preschools organize field trips for children attending the pre-primary school year — a stay in a resort outside of town. Participation is voluntary, it is usually necessary to pay for travel expenses, accommodation and food.
