Primary schools offer the possibility for younger children (mostly grades 1–3) to go to the school day care either in the morning before classes start or in the afternoon after classes end. Attending the school day care is optional. If you are interested in this option, it is necessary to file an application, pay a fee and get to know the day care rules of picking up children.
School day care does not provide any classes. It is an interstage between school education and parenting at home. Day care provides a variety of free time activities, a resting area, and supervision when parents are at work. Some day care activities can take place outside of the school building (nearby nature, playground, school yard…).
School day care is a suitable place for language development of children with a different native language. Children meet with their peers in day care outside of classes which makes getting to know each other and becoming a part of a group easier. Additionally, day care is a natural environment where children can use language on an informal level.
Most schools enable children to take part in clubs within the school premises when school day care is open. Joining a club encourages child’s general development, language development, and integration in a group of peers.
