Duties of parents

  • Parents are required to assure their children’s school attendance. Compulsory school attendance lasts ten years and children are obliged to attend school during this period of time (i.e. last year of preschool and 9 years of primary school). Parents are responsible for their child’s school attendance and have to provide an excuse for their child’s absence in time.
  • Parents are required to personally come to school to discuss serious questions about their child’s education if the principal or the school facility ask them to.
  • Parents are required to inform the school about any changes concerning their child’s medical fitness, health issues or other serious matters which could have an impact on the child’s education. They have to inform the class teacher about any changes regarding their place of residence, health insurance, phone number (and other contact information) and other important matters in order to be entered into the school records.
  • If children do not attend school, parents have to provide a written excuse. Parents usually have to provide an excuse by the following day, the details are specified in the school policy of each school. If the child is leaving for a rehabilitation retreat or staying home for family-related matters (vacation, celebration), parents usually have to ask the school to release the child from classes.
