Enrollment in the 1st grade of elementary school in the 2025–2026 school year takes place from April 1 to 30, 2025.
Obligatory enrollment in 1st grade of elementary school:
- Enrollment is obligatory for children who celebrate their 6th birthday before the beginning of the school year (before August 31, 2025).
- Parents are required by law to enroll their child of compulsory education age.
- Please note that you are required to attend enrollment in the 1st grade of elementary school even if you’re deferring your child’s entry (odklad docházky).
What to do?
- Based on your permanent address, find your catchment area elementary school. You can check the Catchment area map and the website of your municipality or visit the local municipality’s office. You may also get information in the nearest Integration center.
- Check your catchment area school’s website and find out when and how enrollment takes place.
- Follow the steps described on the school’s website and come to enrollment on the announced dates.
- You may submit applications to several schools but one of them should always be submitted to your catchment area school.
You can submit a request for admission of your child outside the above-mentioned periods at any time throughout the school year (e.g., if you arrive to Czechia after enrollment dates).
What documents do I need?
- A completed request for admission of a child (available at schools’ websites or below)
- The identity card of the child’s legal guardian
- Your child’s birth certificate
- If you’re not the child’s parent — a document proving your right to represent the child
If a school uses pre-enrollment (like, e.g., elementary schools of Prague 3), you may print out and complete an application form in advance.
What if my child is not admitted?
- File an appeal against the decision.
- The submission deadline is 15 days after the decision was made.
- Send the appeal by a registered letter to the address of the school that refused to admit your child.
- Send the negative decision to the local education department and ask them to help you find a place for your child.
