Grading (assessment)

  • Assessment is continuous. The following grades are used for assessment in most schools: 1 (excellent), 2 (commendable), 3 (good), 4 (sufficient), and 5 (insufficient). Some schools use verbal assessment or a combination of verbal feedback and grades. Students receive report cards at the end of the first term (end of January) and at the end of the school year (end of June).
  • If a student gets an ‘insufficient’ grade (grade 5) on their report card at the end of the year, they must retake an exam. If the student fails the retake, they cannot advance to the next grade. The school principal may approve the student’s ability to repeat the grade upon request.
